Beware: Fraudulent Charges and Appalling Service at Paddletail Lodge
The management lack customer service skills and an understanding of the hotel’s booking and finance systems. Despite my attempts to resolve the issue on site, I faced aggressive and dismissive behaviour, leaving me with an open fraud case. Several red flags were raised during my stay, including a threat of police involvement when requesting an invoice, the photocopying of my bank card, and the management’s refusal to address the issue.
I booked a two-night stay at Paddletail Lodge, part of Wyndham Group, via booking.com and pre-paid in full. At check-in, the front desk confirmed full pre-payment and requested a $50 refundable incidental deposit. They photocopied my bank card, claiming it was standard practice. The next day, I noticed an unauthorised transaction from the hotel, for $236 (not a pre-authorisation), as well as a pre-authorisation deposit. I raised the issue at the front desk, but they could provide no record of either transaction. When the manager Brittany was called, she could not explain the charges and was repeatedly dismissive. It became clear my card details had been used fraudulently.
At checkout, I was given a blank invoice with no record of the unauthorised transaction, my booking pre-payment, or deposit. Brittany called another manager, Tim, who questioned the lack of records. Brittany claimed all transaction history was deleted since I had checked out just before. I was forced to leave without a statement, refund, or resolution.
Once in the UK, I raised a complaint with Wyndham Group, but received no resolution. In January, three further withdrawal attempts were made by the hotel. I spent 8 weeks trying to recover my money. Brittany would not respond to Wyndham or booking.com. Eventually, booking.com reimbursed me and stated they would pursue Paddletail Lodge for the funds.
