Overall okay but black mould in bathroom

The communal areas of the hotel are decent and for the most part we found staff helpful and pleasant. Our room itself was tired and unpleasant in places. Black mould in the bathroom and wear and tear that made the experience not worth the price. Seems as though we were put in a room that hadn't been renovated for a while as others staying said they didn't have the same issue. We were so busy during the few days we stayed there we ultimately didn't say anything but definitely wanted to share our experience as black mould in a bathroom is very visible so not sure why they've not sorted that out.

Lovely hotel close to A34 and M4

We have stayed here before and have always enjoyed our stay.
The check in was friendly and quick. We had a nice room on the ground floor which was bright and spacious. The food in the restaurant was delicious and breakfast was buffet service with good choices.
We had a spa treatment which was amazing and there's a good size swimming pool.
This is a place that we could return to often.
If you stay for a couple of nights it's just 35 minutes down the M4 to the Swindon Outlet Mall and closer to the hotel in the village of Burghclere is the delightful Sandham Memorial Chapel.

Disappointing spa break for 50th birthday celebration

During a recent stay we were sadly very dissatisfied, particularly with our restaurant experience and the pool/spa facilities.
On arrival just after 2pm it was bad luck on our part but 3/4 couples booking in at the same time were shown straight to their rooms but we had to wait for our executive room (after chasing did mange to get in just before our 3pm treatments). This is a minor niggle but annoying when you are eventually told the room was actually ready, but hadn’t been updated on the system!
In the spa treatment area we had to wait sometime for someone to check us in as the desk was unmanned when we arrived. However they were very relaxing treatments once we went through.
The pool area was really disappointing - seemed to be over capacity with no loungers available. We did manage to grab a seat at a table but saw multiple couples leave when they couldn’t find anywhere to sit. The steam room smelt very stale (not sure cleaning or aromatherapy needed, but it was unpleasant), couldn’t comment on the sauna as it wasn’t up to temperature 20mins after spa opening when I tried it. It was a very noisy area around the pool and not relaxing at all. Ordering refreshments to be brought to poolside ran smoothly however.
Friendly and efficient staff in the bar area, this was a relaxing space to grab a pre dinner drink.
Dinner in the wine press was a major disappointment. We got off to good start with welcoming waiters but things deteriorated. Starters were
acceptable, but the main course of risotto was inedible and we both were unable to eat it it - If stock was used it had little flavour and the dish was bland and didn’t taste seasoned at all. Sadly the restaurant manager instead of resolving issues aggravated the situation. We came away hungry and upset.
Our executive bedroom was clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was as you’d expect for Buffet.
Our issues (primarily with the restaurant experience) were fed back to management at the time and on departure and it was stated customer feedback would be reviewed. However that doesn’t make up for it ruining a special weekend.
I would say this venue is ok for business, but would not stay for leisure again. I only booked here over the Vineyard as though its spa facilities were better. Wish I hadn’t now!!

A Great Weekend Away

4 friends decided we needed a few days, away from home. We choose this hotel as I'd stayed there before.
Check in was swift and everything explained to us about breakfast, restaurant, spa and bar.
The food at dinner was very good, lots of house and reasonably priced.
The weather was lovely and sunny but there was nowhere to sit out and enjoy a beer, park was tiny and in shade, only area, was, the side patio, but there were no chairs, appreciate it as March but should have anticipated this. Had we had the same room as before then the patio was in the sun.
The only reason for 4 Stars was the room, previously we had a superior room with patio, but this time opted for standard room. We had room 224 and noticed the following.
Room door squeaked a as did bathroom door handle
Fridge was missing a leg so rocked, during the night when it kept maintaining temperature it rattled.
Spotlight over shower not working and held up with gaffer tape.
Lots of ripped wallpaper by both because tables.
We reported these to reception n checkout to pass to maintenance.
