An excellent Hotel in a fabulous location that is well staffed with hospitality professionals.

Comfortable and stylish room with a balcony overlooking the Avon Gorge and a perfect view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge . All the staff were very professional & friendly and very helpful. The terrace of the White Lion was packed on a sunny afternoon and a member of reception helped us find a table .
Breakfasts were excellent . I had the full English and the kippers in lemon butter after the well stocked buffet selection of cereals , yoghurt, fresh fruit and pastries . My Italian partner is very fussy when it comes to Espresso coffee . The machine her freshly grinds the beans and the coffee was strong and flavoursome without tasting of almonds or being too bitter ( a common complaint amongst Italian ex pats ) .
We joked I had to prize her away as she did not want to leave Clifton and the excellent Avon Gorge .
Few parking spaces but plenty of permits for the CV parking zone so that shouldn’t be a problem .
We will definitely be returning to this excellent hotel and part of Bristol. Well done guys .

Not worth the extra

Told restaurant was busy but could squeeze us in, only 20 people actually there this at 8 in the evening!. Restaurant staff not engaged and when clearing away made as much noise as possible collecting our plates. Followed by banging down the breakfast cutlery and plates all around us, but not in the clearly empty areas. Very very expensive meal with poor service.

Not so Shabby!

A really lovely dual aspect room on the second floor, particularly spacious to accommodate wheelchair access.
Breakfast was initially really poor for vegans but Hotel du Vin recovered well with the Full Vegan Breakfast. Sausages are (currently) supplied by Vegan Spice which took the simple breakfast of a grilled tomato, 2 mushroom heads and scrambled tofu to the next level. Ooh, and the vegan Black Pudding was a great texture.
Conveniently located to visit the individual boutiques and pubs plus, of course, you have great views of the suspension bridge.

Stunning views/Dark rooms

Well situated hotel for visiting the Clifton side of Bristol. Stunning view of the gorge and suspension bridge from the veranda and from quite a few of the bedrooms. The rooms are rather dark - it appears to be a Hotel du Vin signature - and because many are a modest size this makes them a bit gloomy and oppressive. Staff are friendly, but help with luggage not offered and the passageways to rooms include multiple steps and doors - so not great for anyone with limited mobility.

On arrival, it was a little odd to be asked to physically complete the registration form that I had previously completed online, but check-in was courteous and efficient;
Every stair up to the 3rd floor has a unique groan;
Much of the hotel has dark decor and subdued lighting, but it's not unpleasant, and the rooms have brighter lights that can be used;
The artwork in the rooms has an amusing twist;
The White Lion staff needs to work out a way to be more efficient, but the Clifton Bar staff were exemplary;
Restaurant staff were very helpful and accomodating at breakfast.
Overall, the hotel seemed clean.
