Brilliant location, good food and fantastic staff
Arriving late (11pm), Roula had waited to greet us and take us to apartment 25. The following morning we asked to be moved, as there was a leak in the shower room and a puddle on the floor in front of the sink. No problem! We were immediately taken to apartment 28, in a quiet corner with a large, paved 'garden' in front of it. There was a leak in that shower room too but, as it seemed to be oozing at floor level from the wall behind the toilet, we imagine the plumbing is probably suspect in all the apartments. Unfortunately, the wall in the bedroom is mouldy and crumbling as a result. We were also a bit disappointed by the very limited cooking provision, which consisted of a two-ring hob that blew the fuses one evening when we tried to use the larger ring. We had chosen the self-catering option rather than B&B so it meant we had light breakfasts and didn’t actually bother cooking in the evenings.
Roula was a star throughout, with lots of local knowledge, particularly about food, and recommended some fantastic tavernas. We ate out a lot, but also had substantial meals in Frida’s café. Chef Nikos is very good, and certainly likes to feed people. We can’t praise the staff enough: Gabriela serving at lunchtimes and Anna in the evenings. Anna shook a mean cocktail, whipped up a lovely chocolate mousse with sprinkles, and kept us entertained with her cheeky chat and dry sense of humour. Our total admiration, however, went to Efi and Roula #2, the always-smiling cleaners who came in every day and kept the whole place spotless. Thanks to everyone.
Our main gripes were the sometimes selfish, messy, littering, drunken, noisy neighbours (including Finnish, Irish and British) and the fact that we were both bitten to death by mozzies/midges.
Very good location
