Wellness holiday
Great holiday with very friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner was delicious and varied. Wellness area is very nice. We will definitely come back.

Relaxation days
The hotel has a nice location is easily accessible by car, Ale staff were very friendly and accommodating. The spa area delivers on its promises. The food was very good and varied.
In the beds you sweat while sleeping (there is some very dense overlay on the mattress).

The usual quality of H+, combined with the conviviality of Thuringia.
I already knew that H+ stands for quality from my stays in Zurich and Leipzig. That's why I dared to immediately book 9 nights without having ever visited Friedrichroda before. I was not disappointed.
The welcome was most cordial. But also clear, so that you can go to your room after check-in without any unanswered questions. When booking, I indicated that I would like a quiet room, on a high floor and far from the elevators.
While in some hotels you are dumped on the first floor, directly opposite the elevators and next to the stairwell, here I got a room that was so far away from everything that it almost felt like I was living at the end of a dead end road. : perfect.
The room itself was typically German: charming, with wooden furniture, carpeting in a color you wouldn't choose yourself (in this case blue) and a bed that was just big enough for us tall Dutch people. The bed and bedding in particular did not last, but fortunately on the second day I received a longer duvet from the attentive and very friendly housekeeping and that was also good.
The breakfast is very generous, with a huge choice of hot and cold dishes. The only point of criticism of the stay here is that people are extremely careful with the small spoons (for coffee and for spooning yoghurt, for example). They should be on every table, but they aren't, so you have to steal them from the neighbors or explicitly ask for them. While: all other cutlery is simply there for the taking.
But apart from this little thing, everything in the hotel is great. Also the SPA department with the large swimming pool.
Everyone knows the photos of hotel swimming pools that look enormous but in practice are nothing more than a large bathtub and filled with children. If not here: unfortunately you can't avoid the children, but the swimming pool is enormous, both in length (so that it takes you a while to swim a lap) and width (so that you don't bump into everyone while swimming). There are no fewer than six different saunas (four regular, with different temperatures and two steam saunas), which you can use comfortably with a hotel towel and bathrobe.
I thought it was a shame that both the swimming pool and sauna close at 9 p.m. After all, especially in the summer, on good days you don't get home until that time and that's when it's nice to relax, but anyway: there won't be enough demand to stay open later.
The location of the hotel in the Thuringian Forest is more than favorable. There is plenty of room to park your car for free, you can walk there and explore the cozy town of Friedrichroda.
A five-minute walk away is the stop of the Thüringerwaldbahn, a tram that runs straight through the forests and other undeveloped areas that we do not have in the Netherlands, between neighboring Bad Tabarz and the nearest large city of Gotha. And this with trams that are largely suitable for carrying prams and other rolling stock, but can best be described as "vintage", which is an experience in itself.
The hotel will give you a free public transport card for this tram and other public transport (train and bus) in the area, so you can travel worry-free.
I can more than recommend a stay in this beautiful hotel to everyone. Except maybe if you're looking for action and liveliness, because Gotha isn't exactly Leipzig, Berlin or Cologne.
